Cuckfield’s importance locally was confirmed when it was awarded a Charter to hold a weekly market in 1255 (renewed by Charles II in 1670). Later it was a key staging post on the London to Brighton stage-coach route. It’s thought that the earliest parts of Holy Trinity Church were built before 1250 and there are numerous historic houses and buildings with fascinating stories throughout the ages and one of the first recorded dinosaur fossils was found by Dr Gideon Mantell and his wife at Whiteman’s Green.
